Bagh Milkha Bagh Full Movie

Role model: Milkha Singh is viewed as India's greatest Olympian by many, especially those who remember his races I watched the movie Bhaag Milkha Bhaag primarily because my father had always raved about Milkha Singh as India's greatest athlete. Growing up in Delhi in the era of Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar and other worshipped cricket players, seeing Milkha Singh was like a whiff of nostalgia. My father deeply admired the 'Flying Sikh' but I only knew of him in fleeting terms.

Materi bahasa inggris kelas 1 sd. At the mill, the bark of the logs is removed and the logs are taken to a chipper which cuts them into small pieces called woodchips. The woodchips are then screened to remove dirt and other impurities. First of all, the tops and branches of the trees are cut out and then the logs are taken out to the mill.

Template Milkha and my father are from the same generation displaced by Partition. My father, like Milkha, and many other Punjabi and Bengali families, was unceremoniously displaced from Bangladesh to Kolkata in 1947. The heavy burden of that tumultuous past and searing childhood memories of fleeing from 'home' are embedded in his consciousness.

I saw the tears streaming down his face several times as he watched the movie, realising that it brought back poignant childhood memories of hiding fearfully with weapons and being separated from loved ones that he had suppressed over the years. Shobhaa De critiqued the core premise of the movie being about 'looking back' using Milkha as a template for the nation as a whole.

My take on the movie is slightly different. For me, Milkha Singh's journey should be celebrated as a classic story of an underdog winning through perseverance, hard work and determination.

In a country where, everywhere we look, fast tracks to success, achieved on the back of corruption or cutting corners is normalised, Milkha's arduous journey from the refugee camps to becoming a national hero is truly inspirational. It presents the road to the pinnacle of success as a hard one that requires personal commitment, tenacity and sacrifice. My father always said that, 'In any endeavour, the only thing that really matters is that you tried sincerely to do your very best' and while watching the movie I could hear his words echoing within me. Bhaag Milkha Bhaag serves as a timely reminder that corruption is not the only route to glory In 1958, Milkha set records for the 200m and 400m in the Indian National Games and also won gold medals in the same events at the Asian Games. He then won a gold medal in the 400m competition at the 1958 Commonwealth Games.

As of 2013, he is still the only male Indian to have won an individual athletics gold medal at the Commonwealth Games. Milkha also represented India in the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne, 1960 Rome Olympics, the 1964 Tokyo Olympics and was awarded the Padma Shri for his sporting achievements. Lessons Every child should be shown this movie to learn life lessons from Milkha. His achievements in athletics epitomise important values like harnessing ambition, setting goals, having focus, discipline and determination, and not retreating from hard work. Milkha's sense of perseverance in the face of adversity, his humility, grace and appreciation when victorious for all the people on whose shoulders he stood, are especially touching. The role of his two coaches, who encouraged and spurred him on, is inspiring for all teachers who strive to motivate and nurture their students. While watching the Milkha movie, I was also reminded of another similar story of a Milkha contemporary in the army, Paan Singh Tomar, portrayed beautifully in the movie Paan Singh Tomar.

Interestingly, both Milkha Singh and Paan Singh Tomar set off on athletic paths in the army not because they cared about sports but because they wanted the extra food that was offered to members of army sports teams. But the support and appreciation that Milkha was fortunate to get from his coaches, army superiors and the government was a far cry from what Paan Singh Tomar received. One became a national hero and then Sports Director in the Punjab Ministry of Education, and the other became a bandit.

Of course, the fact that there is no money in sports in India other than in cricket is a sad tale that has not changed much over the decades. Share Flying A core point for me in this movie was a point rather subtly made towards the end - the difference between 'fleeing' (bhagna) and 'running' (daurna).

When Milkha returns to Pakistan in 1960 and confronts the ghosts of his past, the son of his friend asks him if he is the famous man that runs. It is in this moment of self realisation and awareness that Milkha solemnly affirms that he is indeed the uncle that runs. The poignancy of this moment, given the Pakistani coach's cruel barb that Milkha was chased out of Pakistan as a child and has been fleeing ever since, was not lost on me. The difference between fleeing and running is significant.

Movie

Fleeing is an involuntary act and entails running away or escaping from a situation of danger. Running on the other hand may be a conscious, voluntary decision and action.

We must thank Farhan Akhtar (pictured as Milkha), Prasoon Joshi and Rakeysh Mehra for this beautiful movie, which reminds us what Indians can do and be Like Milkha, India has always been fleeing from its past. Its innumerable attempts to blame and disassociate itself from the myriad 'foreign rulers' including the Mughals and the British continue to this day. The 'foreign hand' argument is evoked by politicians at a whim to explain away national crises. In many ways India has not come to terms with its past and nor has it learned to run in a natural and fluid way - to run on its own terms - towards a meaningful future. In 1960, when Milkha was persuaded by Pandit Nehru to run in Pakistan in the Indo-Pak Friendship Games, General Ayub Khan praised Milkha and said, 'Today, you did not run, you flew.' And for India to run and indeed to fly as Milkha did, it needs to learn the lessons that Milkha's story so significantly imparts - no short cuts, no corruption, no unfair play.

Long term planning, hard work, sincerity, perseverance, making hard choices and self confidence are the only manner for individuals and nations to succeed in a sustainable way. We must thank Farhan Akhtar, Prasoon Joshi and Rakeysh Mehra for this beautiful movie about the past that also presents a call to action for the future.
